The value of regular patient self-reported assessment of disease severity and impact.
Patients with chronic inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis and arthritis inevitably experience fluctuations in the behaviour of their disease over time, either in response to treatment or due to spontaneous fluctuation in disease severity. Given the appropriate electronic tools, motivated patients can build up an invaluable personal record of their condition by keeping infrequent but regular assessments of their disease over time. Information can then be securely stored and accessed as needed by the patient and/or the health professional involved in the patient’s management. Such sharing can give motivated patients a greater sense of ownership of their own disease.
